People diagnosed with HIV can live normal, healthy lives. Treatment reduces the amount of HIV in the blood, keeping your viral load low and your CD4 cell count high. HIV can become so low in your blood that you can become undetectable and unable to transmit HIV sexually (U=U). This can ensure that your immune system remains strong and healthy.
HIV stigma is when there are negative beliefs and stereotypes of people living with HIV (PLWH). This can cause PLWH to be treated differently and discriminated against. Openly talking about HIV and providing facts, not misconceptions, can fight against stigma.
T&T is a Florida clinical program that provides immediate linkage to HIV primary care and the initiation of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) at the time of HIV diagnosis or if previously diagnosed individuals with HIV return to care within 24-72hrs. The program benefits the client's health and the community by providing initial ART medication and reducing the risk of HIV transmission.
HIV can severely affect mental health. One of the most common condition of those living with HIV is depression. The CPN has a local support group for PLWH to help cope with life challenges with peers. Please contact us to learn more about our support group.
